A Ferner denotes a glacier in the süddt. and österr. linguistic usage. “Fern” comes from “firn”, which stands for snow from the previous year.
“Ferner” takes up the idea of self-construction in order to simplify the mobile and cost-effective use of a georadar measuring device for geological institutes. The design is a connecting element and a transport carriage that is specially designed for use in snow.
